Description
This broad community contains those biotopes where corals dominate but do not form a living coral reef. A mixture of different coral types can be present. Associated species are similar to 'sparse encrusting community', including sponges and ophiuroids. Discrete colonies of Lophelia pertusa occur on Atlantic mid bathyal coarse sediment. It is likely that this community also occurs in the upper bathyal but it was not recorded in data used to define biotopes.
