Distribution of habitat M.AtUB.Mu.SpnMeg Sea pens and burrowing megafauna on Atlantic upper bathyal mud

  • Records used to define the biotope (core records)
  • Other records assigned to this biotope, marked as 'certain'
  • Other records assigned to this biotope, marked as 'uncertain'
  • Predicted extent of the level 3 (for sublittoral rock & deep sea) or 4 (for sublittoral sediment) habitat

Point data based on records in the UK Marine Recorder Snapshot. Predicted habitat extent is from UKSeaMap.

Description

Dense aggregations of sea pens on fine sediments. The species composition will vary with depth and location. Kophobelemnon has been recorded in Atlantic upper and mid bathyal mud and sand, but associated species are likely to differ with zone and substrate type.
